Amy Cook is an artist the owner of Amicus Studio, which is located on the Lamoille River near the Sandbar Wildlife Refuge on the way to the Lake Champlain Islands. “I like to work in a variety of media. The world of book arts allows me to combine media to produce a functional work of art. I view my books as containers for dreams, memories, and ideas. In this way, I am a collaborator with the owner of the piece, and this is very congruent with my personality. I often consult on interior design jobs and similarly find the notion of creating a vehicle for someone else’s expression to be manifest is at the core of much of my work. It informs my community interests as well.” Amy creates one-of-a-kind books for brides, gardeners, new mothers, bird watchers, travelers, lovers, friends, and others. While her books are crisp and constructed with precision, her two-dimensional works are loose with a more primitive feel. Both possess a refreshing simplicity. Amy states “The abstract work is borne of my restless talent. I particularly enjoy working on cardboard as its texture and obvious flaws offer a unique cadence to those pieces. I am seduced by the basic colors and simplicity of places outside and within. I will be working primarily in this mode from now on.”
