Mary Ann Duffy Godin

Ironstone Pitcher on Parlor cloth

Her training in art has been of her own making--certainly taking advantage of UVM, Community College, and the wisdom of signature artists in this wonderful state of Vermont. Her paintings are done in the traditional style of transparent watercolor leaving the white of the paper for her whites. Mary Ann tends to favor still life coupled with fabric but she has been known to do something very different such as vintage homemade little girl's dresses or vintage high heels and she very much enjoys capturing a backyard bird on watercolor paper too! Mary Ann is a member of the Milton Artists Guild, the St. Albans Artists Guild, and the Vermont Watercolor Society. Presently, her work can be seen at the Village Frame Shoppe and Art Gallery in St. Albans, Vermont.

Vintage Cloth in Tulip Garden

Mary Ann Duffy Godin is a fourth generation Vermonter who grew up on a dairy farm in Milton, Vermont, when all things were homespun, homebound, and homemade. It was the fifties in rural Vermont--there was time to be mindful--to look at things and take stock of one's surroundings--a time that one might wish to recapture and preserve in some way because of its stark contrast to our lives today. After teaching in the public high school as a business/technology teacher for 40 years (30 of which were at Milton High School), Mary Ann decided the time had come to do something for her own sake--maybe just for art's sake. Mary Ann believes that everyone is an artist. Anyone who explores or approaches life with curiosity, wonder, and a heightened sense of awareness knows that art and beauty are a big part of our daily lives. That being said, her subject matter is greatly influenced by much of Vermont life in the 40's, 50's and 60's.

My watercolors will be on display at the Village Frame Shoppe
and Gallery at 72 North Main Street in St. Albans, Vermont
for the remainder of the year.
