Clair Milanovich

I explore any medium which offers the chance to put color on paper, canvas, or wood. I am trying to represent the universals in my world -- a tree that is the essence of what I feel about trees, likewise soil, grass, water -- in short landscapes great and small. From certain landscapes, I can derive abstract compositions that provide an outlet for the graphic designer in my soul.

I began with watercolor, went on to encaustic, and am now adventuring with color pencils  (an absolutely addicting adventure, by the way). My influences have been  Sonia Delaunay, Arthur Dove, Lawren Harris, Lyubov Popova, and Paul Serusier. The most exciting "art" book I have ever read is Philip Ball's Bright Earth. I have also been influenced by two Vermont painters: Susan Abbott and Jane Davies.
