I studied painting with the late Frank Hewett at the University of Vermont and then earned a Master of Fine Arts degree at Johnson State College, in conjunction with the Vermont Studio Center. As a painter, I’ve been fortunate in having the time and energy to follow the dictates of my curiosity, as opposed to a specific agenda. The results range widely in style, subject and include the Vermont landscape, the Costa Rican rainforest, mist-swathed mountains, images inspired by the Hubble Space Telescope and last but not least, the interplay between sunlight, rock and the surface of Lake Champlain. I'm fascinated by the abrasion between order and chaos in the natural world, the process that creates pure visual abstraction, but which is, in fact, entirely dependent upon the physical laws of nature.
